Frequently Asked Questions
What is Ahi Cider?
Ahi means 'Fire' in Maori and our brew is a tangy, pungent and spicy apple cider tonic infusion loaded with goodness. Our Ahi Cider is based on an old folk remedy known as Master Tonic or Fire Cider which Rosemary Gladstar, a well known herbalist, formulated in the 1970s-1980s. It is a long-time favourite in the herbal community treasured for its immune boosting benefits and as a digestive aid.
Why take Ahi Cider?
Good question! We use raw organic Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) in our tonics which has been highly regarded throughout history. In 400 B.C. the great Hippocrates, Father of Medicine, used it for its amazing health qualities.
Lovingly crafted by hand in small batches right here in Tauranga, New Zealand. Our ACV base is infused with natural, healing and powerful ingredients such as garlic, turmeric and ginger among a few others. After letting them steep for 4-6 weeks we strain them, bottle up that golden liquid and send them straight to your door! Hooray!
What are the benefits of Ahi Cider tonics?
Loaded with all the goodness of raw ACV along with the power of our specially selected ingredients, benefits include antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal properties, support weight loss, stimulates metabolism, improved digestion, relieving acid reflux symptoms, increased energy levels, assist with detoxification by aiding circulation and boosting the liver’s ability to purge toxins, stabilizing blood sugar levels, reducing candida overgrowth and bloating to name a few....
Does it have the 'mother'?
It sure does! We only ever use organic raw apple cider vinegar that is made from New Zealand grown apples. Unpasteurised, unfiltered and naturally fermented, the ‘mother’ is found in every bottle and is a natural sediment produced during the fermentation process. A collection of living enzymes and good bacteria, the 'mother' can give the products a murky, cobweb-like appearance (perfectly healthy to consume) and it is known to support the digestive tract and promote healthy gut bacteria.
How much should I take?
We recommend 5-15ml (1-3 teaspoons), 1- 3 times a day especially coming into winter, or take daily to give your body and immune system a boost all year round.
Is it Vegan?
Is it Paleo?
Is there alcohol in your Ahi Cider tonics?
Nope. All our tonics are non-alcoholic however some people may confuse it with hard cider but that is certainly not the case.
How do I enjoy my Ahi Cider tonic?
We love our tonic in a glass of warm water (with a squeeze of fresh lemon juice, if you fancy) or as a wellness shot when taken straight from the bottle. If you are not an ACV convert already, maybe start with a splash in water, fruit juice or pop a shot into your favourite smoothie- you'll thank us!
Be sure to check out our recipe page for some yummy inspiration and MANY MORE ways to enjoy your tonic! We also share ideas on our Instagram and Facebook pages so be sure to stalk, heart and follow us on there too!
Can children or pregnant women take Ahi Cider?
Children may find our tonics a bit strong for their young taste buds so start with a small amount and always dilute in a glass of water or juice. For children under the age of 2 or pregnant women, we recommend you check with your Doctor or Naturopath first.
Does it contain Gluten, Nuts, Seeds or Soy?
Whilst we take extra care and caution when crafting our batches to avoid any cross contamination, please do note that our products are manufactured in a kitchen which also processes gluten, nuts, seed and soy.
